![]() ![]() I find the 8" bulldog speakers are perfect as is, 2x8" are in the JC55 also. ![]() My second one is being left as stock with no mods so I have a baseline to compare with, but the stock one is great in its own right. ![]() Knowing what i need for a great clean jazz tone, with a very slight touch of hair on it, the Pathfinder 15r can definately do it, either stock, but especially with the mods. My other amps are great no doubt, one cost me nearly 15 x of the 15r, but which do i plug my Gibson L5 and Es175 into more often, yep the 15 R. How do i know if these mods were really effective? are these mods justified or are they just imaginary hype from over enthusiastic people?, well I loved this amp so much went and bought a second PF15r for a wait for it, a whopping $70 (and it didn't even come with a vox f/switch lol) so I A/B'd the stock with the modded one. Trem resistor changed, was a good trem originally but now huge Swamp type trem, 30% increase in depth volume. Reverb resistor changed, more reverb available now Picture of boost control mounted on rear of amp below. Boost variable control pot added, tames the boost button to where you want it and now very useable, Plus the led mod makes it a clean boost were you can set your boost volume. Mid resistor replaced with variable control pot, yay! now mid control! Picture of mid control mounted on rear of amp below. Leds removed, result definately more headroom and a more tighter overdrive rather than fuzz when pushed. replaced tiny rubber feet with much larger & more durable rubber feet to suit better moving it around alot, rather than say a bedroom amp where the original feet may be fine? replaced 4 small wood screws holding the handle on with bolts & T/nuts that will never come off. small black steel corner protectors added that fitted perfectly and in exact line with the gold stringers. Having read reviews on a range of possible mods, I set to and did the following mods figuring that if it doesn't work out, well it's only $55 blown. I use a Gibson L5 and a Gibson ES175 through high end jazz amps such as a Henricksen, Polytone and an 80's Roland JC55 and perfectly happy with the great jazz tone I get fron them all. Got it home and only then after buying it & by chance I discovered huge raves on the 15r & milions of mods available. I knew nothing about these amps and wasn't really looking for another amp, but had an idea to try it out only for jazz recording, and with trem & reverb thought it may work well. Picked up a mint 15r I stumbled on for a rediculous $55 and came even came with vox f/switch for trem & boost! So it was almost given to me. ![]()
